THE THREATS AFFECTING THE KHULAN'S SURVIVAL

Climate change

In Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, Climate change contributes to:

  • land degradation
  • desertification
  • and water sources to shrink as a result reduced rainfall.

This result in an increased competition between Khulans and livestock to access to water sources and pastures.

Habitat fragmentation

The development of linear infrastructures related to mining activities in the Gobi, associated to the lack of wildlife crossing structures, fragments the habitat of the Khulan (which is a migratory species) and other wildlife and limit its access to vital resources (water and pastures).
